GEORGE HARRISON "CONCERT FOR BANGLA DESH" BOX SET Original 1972 uk Appke Box set Released 7th January 1972, "Concert for Bangla Desh" was Georges fourth uk solo release, his second triple box set and his first uk number one. Recorded live at Madison Square Garden, New York on 1st August 1971 where there was an afternoon and evening show. With millions starving in his home country, Ravi Shankar asked George to assist him in organising a relief concert to raise funds for UNICEF. In very short time, George had got together the "Greatest rock spectacle of the decade" (to quote NME of the edition after the concert) including Ringo, Eric Clapton, Billy Preston, Leon Russell, and Bob Dylan !George had invited John, Paul and Ringo. Paul declined, saying that the time wasn't right for a Beatles reunion, Ringo accepted as did John, at first, until he realised the invitation to perform did not extend to Yoko ! The concerts watched by 20,000 attendees immediately raised $243,418:50, and a cheque was sent by Madison Square Garden Center Inc. to UNICEF on 12th August 1971. The merchandising post-concert, the film and the album, potentially raised a further 15 million dollars, but legal problems with some record companies, and the U.S. tax system tied the money up for years, and only a very small amount ever found it's way to Bangle Desh. In fact, George had to write a personal cheque to the Inland Revenue for One Million pounds to satisfy constant tax claims by the British government, who decided that this non-profit, goodwill production should be taxed as a standard commerical release. APPLE STCX 3385 THE ORANGE AND CREAM APPLE LABELS TO ALL THREE DISCS ARE IN NEAR MINT CONDITION. THE COLOURS REMAIN BRIGHT AND VIVID AND SPOTLESSLY CLEAN. MAINTAINING THEIR "AS NEW" AND JUST PRINTED APPEARANCE THESE LABELS HAVE NOT SUFFERED FROM ANY FADING, RUBBING OR OTHER BLEMISHES..THEY ARE MINT. THE TRULY IMPRESSIVE VINYL IS ALSO NEAR MINT TO ALL SIX SIDES. CLOSE INSPECTION UNDER A STRONG LIGHT REVEALS JUST LIGHT BUT WISPY AND VERY VERY MINIMAL SURFACE MARKS PRESENT. CLEARLY BARELY PLAYED, I DOUBT THESE VINYL'S HAVE NOT EVEN BEEN HANDLED TOO MUCH OVER THE YEARS. ALL LIE PERFECTLY FLAT WITH ABSOLUTLEY NO BLEMISHES, MARKS OR FLAWS. THE THICK, MATT GOLD INNER SLEEVES ARE SUPERB AND DISPLAY JUST VERY MILD SIGNS OF AGE AND HANDLING AND VERY MILD BUT MINIMAL STORAGE CREASES. THE 64 PAGE BOOKLET WHICH FEATURES PICTURES FROM THE CONCERT IS SUPERB. IT DISPLAYS JUST LIGHT SIGNS OF HANDLING AND SOME EXRTEMELY MILD CREASES BUT CERTAINLY NOTHING SERIOUS. THE BOOKLET IS COMPLETELY INTACT WITH NO SPLITS,TERAS OR WRITING. THE OUTER ORANGE TWO PART BOX IS A STUNNING AND VERY IMPRESSIVE EXAMPLE. STILL COMPLETELY FIRM, STRONG AND RIGID THE BOX DISPLAYS JUST THE MILDEST AND MINIMUM AMOUNT OF AGE OR HANDLING POSSIBLE. ALL THE SIDES AND CORNERS ARE INTACT AND UNWORN, THE TOP OF THE LID AND THE BOTTOM OF THE BASE SHOW VIRTUALLY NO SIGNS OF WEAR OR RUBBING. THE INNER OF BOTH THE LID AND BASE ARE PERFECT AND MINT. ALL WORDING IS AS PRINTED AND TOTALLY UNSPOILT. THIS FABULOUS BOX REMAINS IS ORIGINAL VIVID ORGANGE COLOUR AND IS COMPLETEY UNFADED, UNBLEMISHED AND UNSPOILT.... A TRULY IMPRESSIVE EXAMPLE.
