BEATLES Pre-REMASTER "WHITE ALBUM" LP /3 KNOWN COPIES RAREST US BEATLES LP-ONLY 3 KNOWN COPIES-READ AB OUT IT is simply one of the rarest Beatles records in the world--the "White Album" variant with, in this case, the original version of the first disc (Side 1/2) before George Harrison remastered it. T are only 3 copies of this known to exist. is the story (long, but complete) --As detailed in page 270 of Bruce Spizer's book "The Beatles Swan Song" George Harrison did not approve of the original mastering job done by Capitol on "The White Album" As was often the practice at the time, Capitol's engineers had run the sound signal through a limiter and compressed the volume range of the recording by cutting back the high volume peaks and bringing up the low passages. Harrison insisted that the album be remastered. This took place under his supervision at Sound Recorders Studio on Yucca Street, which was located around the corner from the Capitol Tower...Capitol was forced to scrap the 33 sets of lacquers previously prepared for the manufacture of the album..when the lacquers were recut with the new E/Q settings and the stereo limiter at zero, and numbering began w the first set of 33 left off. That is why the lowest lacquer number appearing in the trail off area of the album was throught to be A34. Although Capitol ordered its factories not to use the first set of lacquers, the company's scranton plant pressed a run of the album with lacquer numbers A28, B 29, A28, and B29 for sides one through four. This recently discovered set is fascinating in that it reveals how the Capitol pressing of "The White Album" sounded prior to Harrison's intervention." Spizer earlier discussed this rarity in his book "The Beatles on Apple Records (Page 118 is devoted to this, but the Swan book--as above's updated description explained it more completely.)Perry Cox and Frank Daniels' new book "Price Guide For The Beatles American Records" further discusses this on page 100, listing this variation as APP 100.SR1(c)X. It states "This variant has lacquer numbers in the trail off area ending in numbers LESS than 34. For example: SWBO-1-101-A-28. These records were pressed with metal parts generated from the initial 33 lacquers, which were supposed to be destroyed...ONLY ONE COPY, which is a VG- Scranton pressing with lacquer numbers A-29 and B-29 has been confirmed."Gary Johnson of Rockaway Records also found a copy of disc 1 with the rare stamper numbers, but the 2nd disc was a regular disc with stamper numbers above 34. The copy offered is a similar copy--only the third known to exist. The copy for auction has the first disc with matrix numbers as follows:Side 1: SWBO-1-101B 29andSide 2: SWBO-2-101 B 28.The disc is in VG condition, with a single skip during the first half of "Back in the USSR" (side one track one.) The second disc is a normal but early one, with matrix numbers Side 3 SWBO-3-101 T48, and Side 4 SWBO-4-101 J44. This disc is in VG condition as well. The cover is a promo copy, with the typical Capitol hole punched through the top right corner. It's in VG++ condition, and bright with tight seams, and the number A1393281.Once again, t is only one known copy with both rare discs, and this is only the second known copy with the rare first disc and a normal second disc--so this may be your only chance to get this ultra rare Beatles LP.
