ABOUT THE WHIP: This 11 foot whip has been hand crafted by master whip maker Wayne Grady. He has been making heirloom quality whips for over 60 years! These whips are built to outlast their owners. See below for more info on one of the great whip craftsmen of the US. This whip has an integral handle, what some people call a snake whip. In the American West, it was just called a whip and was used every day to work cattle and move a herd. This one is made from a beautiful brown leather. It is shot loaded in the handle for perfect weight and balance. The butt has a beautiful pineapple knot braided perfectly tight. It is 11 feet long from butt to tip, not including the replaceable leather popper. The thong is tightly plaited 4-strand from hand-cut, hand-split top quality hide. Wayne makes his whips the old American way with four good, solid plaits, rolled perfectly round, so that if you actually want to use your whip to do some work, you can. These whips have a much more durable feel than the throw-away sweatshop whips you sometimes see. It is almost impossible to find a handmade, shot loaded whip anyw for under $200. This whip is brand new. Each of Wayne's whips is a unique work of art. No two are the same, as he starts from scratch every time. ABOUT THE CRAFTSMAN: Before Indiana Jones, before Lash LaRue, t was WAYNE GRADY. Wayne was born in 1925. He ran away from home at the age of 14 to embark on a career as a ranch hand, rodeo cowboy, logger, and leather craftsman. While working on the famous Coffin Ranch near Yakima, WA as a youth, an old ranch hand sat around the fire in the evenings and taught Wayne the dying art of making great American working whips. He's been producing them ever since. Wayne is one of the heroes of Central Washington, and his story and work have been featured several times in local newspapers in Yakima and Wenatchee.
