Beautiful 3 pc Silver Crest Silver on Bronze Desk Set UP FOR CONSIDERATION IS A FABULOUS CREATION BY THE FAMED MANUFACTURERS OF FINE ARTS & CRAFTS AND ART DECO BRONZE SILVER CREST , THE SUCCESSORS OF HEINTZ. A FABULOUS DESKTOP SET IN FRENCH GREY COMPRISING THREE PIECES: A LETTER HOLDER, A PEN TRAY AND A BLOTTER. SILVER ON BRONZE: The delicate silver designs were cut out and then perfectly bonded to the bronze items through a patented process known as sintering . NICKEL SILVER WASH: The surface of this beautiful item is a nickel-silver wash known as "French Grey", which involved the plating of the entire sterling-on-bronze object. MARKED: (only the letter holder) with the Silver Crest mark, decorated bronze and the item number 2205 DESKTOP ITEMS: The major exceptions in marking the items seem to be desktop sets with usually only one or two of the pieces bearing the insignia. The logical explanation for this is simply that the makers never imagined that these complete sets would ever be broken up and scattered hither and yon. COLLECT IT AND ENJOY! DIMENSIONS: Letter Holder - c. 3 1/4 " (8 cm) tall, 5 1/8 " (13 cm) wide and 1 7/8 " (almost 5 cm) deep Pen tray - c. 6 " (15 cm) long and 2 3/8 " (6 cm) wide Blotter - c. 4 1/2 " (11.5 cm) long and 2 1/8 " (5.5 cm) wide CONDITION: Good. No repairs, chips, bends, dents, dings or whatsoever, unless specified. T is no paper left on the blotter. Please do not forget that you are bidding on a used item that always may shows some wear! The American Arts & Crafts Movement flourished briefly but brilliantly during the early years of the twentieth century. It was during this era that the Heintz Art Metal Shop and its successor the Smith Metal Art Company (Silver Crest) produced decorative bronze wares of the highest quality. After the death of Otto L Heintz on January 10, 1918, the head salesman Fred C. Smith left the firm in 1919, taking with him many of the veteran metalworkers. Together they founded the Smith Metal Arts Company, also in Buffalo, New York.
