Beautiful Mahagony Claw Foot Secretary Desk Circa 1940 Up for bids is this beautiful Mahagony Claw Foot Secretary Desk built about 1940. The desk measures about 42 inches tall, 38 inches wide and 16 inches deep. It measures about 31 1/2 inches from the floor to the desktop. The supports for the desk top open automatically. T are 4 drawers, cubbies and dividers in the desk, but not in the large main drawers under the desktop. T are two hidden compartments, one on each side of the main center cubby that has a door - these compartments pull out and look like spindles on each side of the door - see photos. All the doors slide easily. The center cubby in the desk, the one with the door, has a keyhole but no lock - it appears to have been removed. The desk top still has its lock in place but does not have a key, tfore we are unable to determine whether or not this lock functions properly, but we have no reason to beleive it doesn't. The finish is original as far as we can determine. The exterior, in addition to having the typical scratches and dings, that are gained over the years, has a few noticable scratches on the front part of the fold down as well as a deep scratch and can be seen in the photos below. Other than this, overall, we would consider this desk to be in very good condition and wouldn't hesitate at all to place it in our own living room. Check out the photos below for more details.
