This is a rosewood infill cast smoothing plane possibly user made 19th C. It is 13" long by 2 3/4" wide, a cast steel frame. The owners name is stamped on the front & the massive 3/16" thick tapered blade is marked Thomas Ibbotson & Co with their trademark. The chip breaker is marked I. Sorby Sheffield but mates perfectly with the blade. The closed tote has a repair screw on top, gluing alignment is excellent. The bottom surface has been carefully lapped on a marble slab with 600 grit silicon carbide until it is polished mirror flat.
