Up for bids is a beautiful vintage wooden tripod, originally intended for survrying. This tripod is made of a fine grained honey colored wood, such as maple(?) and is fitted with coated iron and bronze fittings. It stands approx. 36" tall, but with the adjustments on the legs you can probably add another 2 feet or more to the height. One leg has a decal which is nearly 100% effaced which appears to have been the maker. Just above that is a decal with the letters: "U.S.C.E." (U.S. Corps of Engineers?) The tripod was originally for surveying, and its mount would currently hold a transit. However, it appears that the large screw that holds the transit in place could be removed and replaced with a camera-size mounting screw. I can just imagine this gorgeous tripod with a nifty old View or folding camera mounted on it. Needs some lemon oil and some light scratch cover; otherwise nice and in good order. Shipping weight with packing 13 pounds.
