This fabulous antique thread or string box measures 90mm (3.5'') long x 40mm (1.5'') across the middle. It dates to around the 1850's or possibly earlier and is finely carved from Coquilla nut with a threaded centre and a hole for the string or thread. It has a fantastic patina not really shown in my photos and has one old short tight hairline crack which only extends across the 3 bands of the centre (photo3).
