Ardennes, founded in 1998, continues the activities which were started in 1865 by the original work shop ‘ateliers Burton’. This involves the exploitation of the quarries and the production and sales of schist for different applications. Ardennes is specialised in the well known whetstone Coticule or Belgian Sharpening Stones. Coticule is one of the rarest natural stones in the world. Discerning woodworkers, knife enthusiasts and straight-razor users from around the globe choose this stone to put a razor-sharp edge on their knives, tools and razors. The yellow coticule measures just barely under 7 mm deep at the deepest point, and measures 5 mm deep at the thinnest point .
