[Modern Literature] Plath, Sylvia; The Bell Jar ; New York; 1971; Harper & Row; Octavo (8.5 x 5.5 inches); 311 pages; book club edition. The Bell Jar --published originally under the pseudonym Victoria Lucas--is Plath's only novel, an autobiographical account of her struggles with depression as well as literary greatness, the fundamental problems gripping protagonist Esther Greenwood being anxiety and a paralyzing sense of indecision and worry.Red hardcover in good condition, with silver text and ornamentation to front board and spine; some rounding to unbound corners and bumping to spine extremes. Perhaps a touch of rubbing to boards; binding is tight and square; interior is clean and tidy: no creasing, tearing, or marking. Lavender endpapers are clean; top of textblock stained light red or pink. Just a hint of a musty odor to volume.Jacket is about good(+), with rubbing and light handling wear to extremities. Heaviest wear to top edge of jacket and crease at flaps. Bottom of front flap reads "Book Club Edition."A handsome volume for the Plath enthusiast.PayPal; thanks for visiting Temple Circle Books and Media.
