From my personal collection of 'handmades and high grades' comes a very good condition Ben Wade pipe. A medium height bowl with straight stem, it is the essential Danish of collectables. It has simply fantastic burl in the bowl with a 'moss' rusticated bottom. Of course, the bit fits perfectly, and is snug.I am partial to long pipes; I love the Lumberman styles I have, and I've probably got twenty Canadians. But this is the nicest of the genre - a London-made Lovat style by Ben Wade. The long lines and magnificent sand blast is so typically English and make it an extremely attractive and well balanced pipe. Length is 6 1/4", and bowl height is 1 3/4".The markings on the briar are clean and readable as: Ben Wade LONDON, ENGLANDOn the top of the bit: BENWADEThis pipe has been smoked lightly. The bit shows slight bite marks and the bowl is charred. I have seldom smoked the pipe. It was an 'estateâe(tm)pipe when I acquired it, and was in this condition. I see no fills and other than the slight bite marks, t are no cracks, no chips, no flaws. I 'm a member of the North American Society of Pipe Collectors (NASPC), and am selling most of my collection of pipes, racks and memorabilia.
