BENITOITE Benitoite Gem Mine, New Idria District, San Benito County, California. Size 4.3 cm x 3.3 cm Crystal is 1 cm largest dimension is a nice specimen of Benitoite from the Benitoite Gem Mine. This is one of the better specimens I found this year at the mine, in April 2008. It features a pristine 1 cm benitoite crystal with great color, and a rim of crystals that make a nice frame! I really hope the mine reopens soon for more collecting! Sadly, the Clear Creek Recreational Area will be closed for possibly up to 20 more months or longer, including the Gem Mine. If you don't have a Benitoite or Neptunite from this world famous locality, BUY ONE SOON!!! ITS GETTING MORE RARE ALL THE TIME!!! Even if you do not buy this one ;) !! You can thank all our friends with the EPA for this closure, a result of 'scientific study'. Feel free to tell them how you feel! And if you feel strongly, tell it from the heart!
