THE BEST 18TH C HEART DECORATED WROUGHT IRON ROASTING FORK IN OLD SURFACE Description: Fresh from an old collection of decorated wrought iron and hearth ware. A Museum Quality piece of Heart Decorated American Wrought Iron. One of the Absolute Best HEART Decorated Wrought Iron American Roasting Forks, New England, Circa 1780-1820 in great old surface and in an extremely rare large size. Great condition it is untouched and uncleaned with great old surface and patina and still retaining traces of an old black painted surface. Rare form with seven (7) fully shaped and curled decorated hearts with a double twisted shaft and an additional 34 curled decorations throughout. It has a nice shaped and rolled over top and still retains its original added iron ring. It has wonderful detail to the tine end as it flairs out nearly 5 inches. The three tines are still intact. Great surface wear and wonderful hand forged tool marks throughout. Most of the HEART DECORATED iron tools and utensils were usually made for a young women's dowry. This fact is discussed in George Neumann's book, "Early American Antique Country Furnishings" as well as in "Wrought Iron in Winterthur". Often the bride would have these items made for either her dowry or receive them as wedding presents. They were primarily made for show purposes and display. This piece read more
