This is a new Best Lock padlock, Model 2B720, now obsolete. This lock is factory stamped S.O.Co (Standard Oil Company) and was a special factory order. It has the old Best elliptical logo from the days when the Best family owned and operated the Best Lock Company. The logos feature the brilliant green dyechem, which was discontinued in the 1980s as a cost-cutting measure. The brass case is 1 1/2 inches wide by 1 3/4 inches tall and approximately 27/32 inch thick. The bronze shackle is 1 1/2 inches tall. Best padlocks with bronze shackles are especially recommended for marine use or other situations demanding a lock capable of resisting salt air, wet weather or other corrosive environments. Included will be a Best core, original Best operating key and control key (core removal key). The keys are factory stamped "It is unlawful to duplicate this key," a stamp that is no longer available. The core is keyed to a Best sales sample combination, which means that it will not open any other Standard Oil Company locks. This lock is over 20 years old and in fine condition. Best currently lists a combinated core for more than $30. It is legal to own this lock, as we obtained it new from a Best factory representative.
