The pattern name of this 9-3/4" pearlware plate is taken from a woodcut from Thomas Bewick's General History of Quadrupeds (1790). The plate is particularly well printed in a rich bright blue with lots of contrast. The large stag at the center is joined by two other stags and a doe in the central pattern as well as other animals in the border. Take a look at all of the photos for the details. Other than a tiny restoration to a chip at 5 o'clock, condition is excellent. The plate was probably made in Staffordshire around 1820.
