Hey guys, Up for auction here is a BIG Preben Holm Freehand Crown VOLCANO Pipe. Isn't it nice to see a pipe that so nicely matches the form it was supposed to take? I love the Volcano shape, and now I'm convinced that any attempt at one should be a freehand--a bit gnarled and funky, yet still beautiful to behold. From the research I've gathered, Preben Holm began carving pipes in the 1950's and 1960's as a teenager and was mostly responsible for the Danish Freehand invasion. It's really easy to see why in this example of his work. This is one beautiful plateau burl. All Straight Grain, all around the bowl. And the Contours that surround the bowl: everyone is there for a reason and lets you comfortably cradle this huge pipe. Add a hand-cut stem and a wide open draw, and you've got a show-piece pipe. This Preben Holm Crown Volcano Features Stats :Length: 7.25" Bowl Height: 2.2" Chamber Width: .875" Grain and Bowl: Vertical Straight and Flame grain all around the massive bowl.
