In his prime, Bill Ranford, was arguable the finest goalie in the world. His break came with Edmonton in 1989 after the dynasty that traded Wayne Gretkzy and Paul Coffey lost Grant Fuhr for most of the season to injury. Ranford, acquired from Boston for Andy Moog, played spectacularly as the starting goalie for the Oilers. That spring, he led Edmonton to a Stanley Cup Championship while being named winner of the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP. The next year he was named Canada's starter for the 1991 Canada Cup and not only did Ranford lead the team to victory, he was named the outstanding player of the tournament. As Edmonton faltered in the mid-1990s, Ranford was traded back to Boston. He spent time with Washington, Tampa Bay, Detroit, and Edmonton again before retiring in 2000 after playing 15 season and over 600 games while winning two Stanley Cups. A.J.
