A Dictionary of the Otchipwe Language, Explained in English Part 2, Otchipwe-English. By R. R. Bishop Baraga. Montreal: Beauchemin & Valois, Publishers 1880. This is the second edition (1880 date on title page) with the statement on the title page "A New Edition, by the Missionary of the Oblates". This work was first published in 1853 by Jos. Heeman of Cincinnati. This work is the first comprehensive Ojibwa (Chippewa, Ojibway) dictionary. Volume is bound in the original publisher's binding with leather spine and corners over cloth covered boards. Gilt lettering on the spine. The covers show wear on the corners and a library number on the spine, otherwise the covers are in Good condition. the text is in near Very Good condition. It appears that the front hinge was repaired, otherwise the hinges and binding are tight. There is a Private Library bookplate on the front pastedown (see pics) and the name "Peter White" is written on a free end page and on the title page. All pages of the text are present, the pages for the most part are clean and crisp. 422 pages.
