This is a beautiful book on an unusual topic....The History of German target shooting and target arms. The title is " Old German Target Arms (Alte Scheibenwaffen), by Thompson, Dillon, Hallock and Loos, stated first edition 1999, 388 pages, GORGEOUS illustrations throughout. Covers the early history of German target shooting from the early middle ages to just before WWII as well as the early rifles from matchlock to percussion. The guns included here are STUNNING, each with incredible silver work. Covers the Aydt, Badar, Bormuller and Buchel Schutzen rifles, although an expected 2nd volumes was planned to cover the balance of the Schutzen rifles. Also covered are the state or national shoots (Bundesschiessen) and associated memorabilia such as awards, steins, medals, trophies, targets, photos, goblets, watches, shooter's claim cards and scorecards, and much more. The various Bundesschiessen competitions are covered, such as the first one in Frankfurt in 1862, which were attended by as many as 9 different nationalities and thousands of participants. Rules and regulations are discussed as well as the guns, targets and loads used. There is a very welcome glossary which translates the German terms used in the book.
