Rare and lovely Bahr & Proschild 277 German black doll dating from 1888. She has fixed brown glass eyes, which is correct they should not be sleeping. Her open mouth reveals her tiny original teeth. There are top and lower painted eyelashes and multi stroke eyebrows. Her ears are pierced, which means she was probably made for the French market, and also the word DEP on the back of her head shows that she was made for export. She measures 11 1/2 inches ( 29 cms) without her wig on. I guarantee her head has no hairlines, chips or restorations. Her gorgeous black original mohair wig is in excellent condition. She is on an early wood and composition body with the fixed wrists. It is in good condition with the original paint and sheen. Two fingers are broken on her right hand, apart from that I can find no other damage or wear. It is the original stringing. She is wearing her original bright green and yellow silk type long dress with hand embroidery, as you will see from the pictures it is quite distressed on the skirt. Her long pantaloons and petticoat look like her originals and are in good condition. Around her neck she has rows of beads.
