This auction is for over 3 pounds of Black Hills gold pay dirt that is mined from 3 separate 'Hot Spots'. On my most recent trip to the Black Hills, my extensive research brought me to 23 locations. 18 of these locations produced at least some color, while seven locations on four separate creeks produced very good gold. First, my research took me to Iron Creek. A near mile long straight part of the creek ends with several sharp turns. The best gold was at the front of the base of a gravel bar right on this first bend that was about a 90 degree turn. Two test pans both showed good gold ranging in size from fines to a small nugget. Gold was larger in size when I got down to bedrock with some pieces still having iron on them. The second material comes from Battle Creek. This material comes from the old river channel which sits about a hundred feet from the current flow. This year I had discovered a bend in the channel not too far upstream from where I was last year. Within the first 2 hours of processing this material, I had already a few dozen colors (mostly flakes and a few pickers) but most importantly one nugget which weighed .97 of a gram. There has been good gold found on the dirty chunks of bedrock and cobble once they are washed off. I processed 7 decent buckets at the creek but brought back 4 buckets with the best material to share with you. Some flour gold, pickers, but mostly flakes have been found from this area. I have done one more pan since I got back to Omaha and that had one 1/4" flake, 2 smaller flakes and a picker. Finally, this last material comes from the gold rich area on Deadwood Creek between the cities of Lead and Deadwood. This particular location in the northern Black Hills lies on an area of significant uplift known as the Deadwood Formation which is home to the Homestake Mine. The Homestake Mine has recovered 9 million ounces of silver but more importantly over 39.7 million ounces of gold. Countless hundreds of thousands of ounces of gold still rest in today's Deadwood Creek and more importantly the ancient bench deposits not far from the current flow. This material came from the bench deposits right on the bedrock. This paydirt is partially black with most of it being a silver-grey clay that was on a thin layer directly on the bedrock and in the cracks and crevices. Since this material has not traveled far from the source, it has some smooth and a lot of rough gold, few garnets, black sands and 2 test pans showed 5 pieces of quartz with gold. The gold found has been a few fines, mostly flakes, several pickers (some are longer and skinny like thick gold wire) and now as of 7/31 I have seen 2 nuggets (for me a nugget is over a 1/4 of a gram). The first nugget weighed .41 of a gram the second nugget is 1.12 gram. I put the paydirt from these areas in fourteen 5 gallon buckets and transported them in the back of a trailer that has been bouncing around for 700 miles. In that time, some of the gold may have settled towards the bottom so I am removing the top 60% of each bucket for my personal use and putting the best 40% of the material, the bottom of the bucket, up for auction. I live in Omaha, Nebraska. The only gold found in East Central Nebraska is trace amounts of glacial gold that was left from the last ice age, over 10 thousand years ago.
