DESCRIPTION : "AMERICAN PRIMITIVE STAGECOACH TRUNK" ; this American Primitive trunk used for transporting personal items via stagecoach is constructed of pine wood, covered in black stained leather, decorated with half inch black leather straps and brass dome tacks and bears the initials WWJ. It has a dome or camel back top, black painted iron hardware for the handles and back plates, hinges, and lock plate with the lock having a brass keyhole cover. The interior is lined in a decorative paper; the underside is untreated. Circa late 18th -early 19th C. HALLMARK : Original Owner's Initials - WWJ (formed by brass tacks). CONDITION : Very Good-Good Used Condition; age appropriate wear shows as some surface dust/dirt, some leather damage (some tears and small pieces missing - some leather strap pieces have been saved and stored inside), a few missing brass tacks, some damage to decorative paper lining, lock portion is missing from the cover, hinges have a couple of replacement screws, no key, slight mothball odor noticed upon opening but not lingering.
