Large Black Pipestone Museum Quality Head Effigy Medicine Pipe This pipe measures 3 3/8 inches tall, approximately 2 inches from back to front and 1 7/8 inches wide. This pipe is in amazing overall condition. There are absolutely no repairs on this pipe. This is an awesome rare museum quality Black Pipestone shaman's head effigy medicine pipe. Over years of collecting, I have seen only a few of these and usually in publications and not in person. This one will be an excellent addition to your collection. The Native Americans did not smoke pipes like this for the sake of smoking as people do today. They believed smoking to be very spiritual and combined it with prayer and communion with the Great Spirit. That to me is what makes effigy pipes so interesting. There is always a reason for the particular effigy, Not simply decoration. These pipes were always treated with great care and respect.
