The cutlery world lost one of its greats in 2011 when Blackie Collins was killed in a motorcycle accident. Blackie's contributions to modern knives are many. The descriptions "knife designer" and "custom knifemaker" only scratch the surface. He pioneered the assisted opening mechanism, designing various automatic knives. As an author, he founded what became Blade Magazine . He was a founding member of the Knifemakers'Guild .
