This is the rare first year Blue Dog doubloon. This is a great addition to any Blue Dog collection. This is a Blue Dog Mardi Gras doubloon. There were only 14,000 made specifically for Mardi Gras Day and the Krewe of Argus. These doubloons were thrown by George Rodrigue and his wife Wendy from a special blue dog float. One side features the famous blue dog himself and Rodrigue's engraved signature. The other has ARGUS and 1972 (the year this Krewe originated). These are great collectables. They are very hard for me to get. I have only been able to get a few of them. While a good number were made, I think a lot of them are being hoarded by collectors. I know this coin is very hard to find outside of New Orleans. This is a chance to get one at a reasonable price. I really don't know what is going to happen to the price of these in the future. For those of you who don't know, Mardi Gras doubloons are brightly colored aluminum coins about the size of a silver dollar. They are thrown by Krewe members from Mardi Gras floats. Doubloons usually have the symbol of the Krewe on the front along with the date the Krewe was organized, the back side usually has the theme for that years parade as well as the date.
