Up for auction is an awesome combination of large smoky quartz crystals, and perched on these crystals, are some beautiful blue shading to purple tourmalines in a bed of cleavelandite. The quartz crystals have inclusions and are very lovely. The specimen can easily be displayed from a variety of positions as I have tried to show in the photos. The specimen is in very good shape for such large quartz crystals with the contact areas on the bottom w the piece was removed from the pocket and a little edgewear on the quartz; however this does not detract from the beauty and the power of the piece. It is amazing that, under the often primitive and dangerous high altitude mining conditions w this piece was collected, that it is in such good shape. The tourmalines have an incredible color and are especially beautiful under a light. A light will also help you display the quartz best. If you look into the quartz, t are several areas which look like they have water bubbles or inclusions of liquid. The specimen is from Kumar, Afghanistan. I obtained this specimen several years ago from a person who buys directly from the miners in the region. Due to current political instability in this region of the world, it is becoming much more difficult to obtain such specimens, and the prices over the past few years have risen accordingly.
