Up for auction is a large blue and white transferware platter in Mint Condition. It was created as a likeness of the oil painting done by John Trumbull in the early 1800's. The painting is sometimes incorrectly described as the signing of the Declaration of Independence. In fact, the painting (and the platter) actually shows the presenting of the draft of the Declaration to the Congress, an event that took place on June 28, 1776, and not the signing of the document, which took place later. It measures about 14" x 18. This platter was made for the Benjamin Franklin Federal savings and loan in the Pacific northwest , it was given as a gift for customers that deposited large sums of money at their bank.
