9" high Art Deco jug in a deep lustred maroon colour (sometimes referred to as Rouge Royale, though this was not a Crown Devon title for its wares), and featuring extenisve hand enamelling and gilt tot eh body of the piece, depicting a single butterfly hovering around weeping floral sprays. There is no damage or restoration to be found and the gilt is not worn. Stamped to the base CROWN DEVON FIELDINGS MADE IN ENGLAND A1659IN with presumably the hand applied pattern number 5004, next to which is a heart in gilt. The inside of the jug is lustred entirely and is also very clean. Perhaps the most noticeable element is the absence of a pouring spout, in its place there is a broad lip, that serves the same purpose, but is unusual.
