You are bidding on Boyds Bears & Friends "Hannah T. Bearsly...Summer Breeze," from The Bearstone Collection. The Item No. is 227788. Thesize of this piece is approximately 6" high by 3" wide. This piece is made from stone resin. This piece was produced in 2002 and retired in 2003. The Edition/Pc # is 5E/3739 which means that this item was the 3739th piece in the 5th Edition. THIS ITEM IS "NEW OTHER," NEVER DISPLAYED, STORED IN ITS BOX SINCE PURCHASE. "NEW OTHER," AS DEFINED BY EBAY, MEANS: A NEW, UNUSED ITEM WITH ABSOLUTELY NO SIGNS OF WEAR. THE ITEM MAY BE MISSING THE ORIGINAL PACKAGING, OR IN THE ORIGINAL PACKAGING BUT NOT SEALED. THE ITEM MAY BE A FACTORY SECOND OR A NEW, UNUSED ITEM WITH DEFECTS. SEE THE SELLER'S LISTING FOR FULL DETAILS AND DESCRIPTION OF ANY IMPERFECTIONS." It has only been removed for inspection when purchased and again for picture-taking. This figurine is in "MINT" condition, including the original fitted Styrofoam box with cellophane wrappings which may have been removed for photography (see Photograph #2 above). The outer box shows signs of storage and/or age (see Photograph #2 above). There are no chips, cracks or repairs to this item. The bottom of each piece is stamped with the name, edition and piece number (see Photograph #3 above). Each resin piece is inscribed with a hidden bear paw, a "Symbol of Authenticity". Also, the "Gen-yoo-wine Boyds" hand tag is enclosed (see Photograph #2 above). Please review the photographs to make your own assessment of the condition of this item. As written on the back of the box: "In the Bearstone Collection, our artists have brought to you sculptural interpretations of our Now Famous (or is that Almost Famous?) Bears, Hares, Tabbies, Moose, (Mooses?), Mices, and other 'Friends.'" "We believe that The Bearstone Collection forms a combination of Aesthetics, Craftsmanship and 'Whimsey' that represent a true value for today's Collector." HISTORY OF BOYDS BEARS In 1979, Boyds Bears was founded by Gary M. Lowenthal and his wife, Justina Unger. They were the owners of an antique shop; however, they found it difficult to maintain an inventory of well priced antiques. In 1984 they began sculpting with resin, at first making a line of miniature houses called "The Gnomes Homes." The first bear was a stuffed bear made for the couple's newborn son, Matthew. They began making and selling stuffed bears, and the bears became known as "Boyds Bears." It has been believed that they got their name from the creator of the bears; that's not the case. The name actually originated from the town of Boyds, Maryland where the journey began to becoming some of the most sought after bears in the world today. In 1993, Boyds Bears released its first series of resin figurines, "The Bearstone Collection," and it was this collection that made Boyds a major contender in the collectibles line. In 1994, Boyds followed that up with "The Folkstones Collection," a line of nontraditional whimsical figurines with folk art themes. In 1996, "Yesterday's Child," from "The Dollstone Collection," was introduced. This was a series of little girl figurines from different eras with companion dolls or teddy bears. All the collections, Bearstones, Folkstones and the Dollstones, were handmade, handpainted and handboxed. Many collectors wanted Gary Lowenthal to increase the price of his Boyds Bears. It was their belief that if they were more expensive, then they would become more collectible. Gary refused to do this. It was his belief that the more affordable the item, the more likely it would be that children would be able to play with them. So, rather than increasing his price as the collectors had requested, Gary retired almost half of the lines each year so that they would become limited editions and therefore become more collectible.
