Offered is a rare and beautifully preserved item for the specialist amphibian collector; a complete 7.3cm example of the rare scaled genus Trimerorhachis , from the Lower Permian Freshwater marles of the Ebersdorf area of Germany. The specimen is truncated medially by a natural fault in the siltstone matrix which has displaced the two halves by about 1cm; this is a natural feature and not any kind of repair.......otherwise the specimen is near perfect, with the skin, covered in minute scales, finely preserved............the delicate external gills too are evident on the sides of the skull. The latter is particularly interesting as the lower mandible is intact and numerous tiny needle-like teeth are preserved. All four limbs are articulated with clear individual bones, including toe and finger bones with claws!Altogether a magnificent legacy of Permian freshwater life!Matrix approx. 15cm X 6cm X 1.5cmExcellent price for such a delicately preserved permian amphibian...........one for the serious collector
