19th Century Brass and Enamel Cross ~ Icon Russian, a 19th.Century Cross with side pieces, in brass and enamel, the reverse decorated with engraved flowers. Measures 9" x 5", heavy brass with medium blue enamel. This beautiful and highly emotional piece of artwork has sharp, intricate detailing. It is in original, very good to excellent condition. Religious Icons have come to be regarded as much more than merely one of the aspects of medieval religious life in eastern Europe. Through the work and appreciation of a growing number of collectors, scholars, and critics, many of these beautiful sacred 'images' are now considered to rank with Europe's great pictorial masterpieces.
