MANCHESTER SHIP CANAL - BRASS & ENAMEL BADGE - RAILWAY? An enamelled brass uniform badge measuring 1.7 inches by 2.1 inches. The blue enamel frame carries "Manchester Ship Canal" in brass lettering and has the Manchester City crest with the motto "Navigation and Commerce" beneath. The reverse has two split pin hoops but no split pin. The badge is typical of military or uniform badges and I originally thought it may have been a helmet badge from the Manchester Ship Canal Police but an ebayer who seems to know about these things has kindly written to say it relates to the Manchester Ship Canal Railway. Condition:- The badge has clearly been worn and there is light wear to the enamel around the outside and heavier wear to the Manchester crest which forms the raised centre of the item. The reverse is a little tarnished and one of the fixing loops has been replaced and soldered into place.
