Iridescent Calcite Keokuk Geodeclosed geode dimensions: 2-1/8 in X 1-7/8 in X 1-1/2 inweight: 3.2 oz22 years ago, the event that inspired my passion for Keokuk geodes was the US Highway 61 expansion project called the "Avenue of the Saints" that cut into a hillside filled with precious geodes like this one. This geode is lined with the coveted combination of iridescent brown and clear calcite crystals. The brown calcite has ingested goethite making it iridescent and this one reflects gold hues off of the brown calcite crystals' faces. A later growth of clear rhombic calcite formed atop the brown, adding to its contrasting crystalline beauty. This excellent find was found years ago in Lewis County, Missouri.I specialize in top quality, mineralized Midwestern USA Geodes.My passion is collecting, buying, trading, and selling these geodes.
