Actual Broadcast Recording (Aircheck)Station: Wonderful Radio London -- Pirate Offshore UK Station DJ: John Peel Date: 16 July, 1967Length: 74 minutes (digitally remastered and placed on CD at our studios here at Rock-it Radio)RIR Release #: 407 There probably isn't a more famous DJ in the UK then John Peel. John passed away on 26 October of 2004 but what a broadcasting legacy he left. Originally aboard Wonderful Radio London the Pirate Station of the Mid 60's in the UK. This broadcast is from 1967 and is his last broadcast prior to going over to BBC One. John Peel launched many famous musical careers and this show features some of the most rare and "groovy" psychadelic rock music of the 1960's. This is from an actual recording of the original Wonderful Radio London broadcast back in the summer of 1967. Many of these songs you hear in the broadcast are actually quite rare and received limited airplay - songs you just don't hear on your typical oldies station today. More about the DJ; John Peel was a broadcasting legend. His influence has towered over the development of popular music for nearly four decades. Born John Ravenscroft near Liverpool in 1939, Peel said his life was changed when he was a teenager by hearing Elvis Presley singing "Heartbreak Hotel." He moved to Dallas, Texas, where he landed a job as a DJ on WRR radio.
