A King's South Africa Medal (KSA) with clasps South Africa 1901 and South Africa 1902. Impressed naming to 2830 Pte. W. SPANNER. HAMPSHIRE REGT. Naming has been severely rubbed, but number and regiment are legible enough to confirm recipient by reference to medal roll. South Africa War Casualty Roll confirms that Private W. Spanner, 2nd Battalion Hamps. Regt., was killed in the railway accident near Barberton, 30th March 1902. An account of the disaster at this link: /vol115sw.html
