BRITISH BUTTERFLIES Figures and Descriptions of EVERY NATIVE SPECIES With an Account of Butterfly Developement, Structure, Habits, Localities, Mode of Capture and Preservation, etc.. By B. W. COLEMAN. With 16 engraved plates 14 in full litho colours with some having silver & gilt highlights by EDMUND EVANS. Published by; ROUTLEDGE, WARNE & ROUTLEDGE, London. 1860 179 pages inc index + the engraved plate pages. + a 32 page publishers illustrated catalogue. ALL the rare and several extinct butterflies described and illustrated. Species like the Azure, Mazarine, Bedford & Large Blues + The Large Copper + The Queen of Spain Fritillary + Large Tortoiseshell, etc, etc. CONDITION: The spine has been relaid, but unless you pick it up you wouldn't know. The endpapers are new, but a pale sympathetic mottled pattern. The plates are mostly very clean and tight. One edge of one page (see photo) has a small red line on the plain guard. There is a little light handling, all edges uncut, some a little too rough from when originally cut open at time of purchase so the outer edge has been left very uneven on a couple of pages. Overall a Lovely copy of a pocket sized Victorian butterfly book (ignore the bit about collecting them, he still loves them from the writing).
