- This cruciform bayonet was produced by the Singer ManufacturingCo., Kilbowie, Clydebank, Scotland-- a peacetime sewing machine manufacturer. The bayonet was originally designed for use on No. 4 Enfield Rifle, but it was also utilized on both the No.4 Mk I* Rifle and the Sten Mk V Submachinegun. Per Graham Priest's book ( Spirit of the Pike), Singer was the sole maker of the No. 4 Mk I cruciform bayonet and produced only 75,000 before the design was superseded by the simpler and more economical No. 4 Mk II straight spike bayonet. According to I.D. Skennerton ( The British Spike Bayonet ), total No.4 (Mks I, II, II*, and III) spike bayonet production during WWII was 4,791,089, making this Singer item extremely rare and collectable. - Bayonet: This bayonet is in excellent condition. It has a smooth blued finish on the socket (approximately 85% finish remaining). The overall bayonet length is 9.875." The left side of the bayonet socket is clearly stamped “G” (British Crown) “R” / “No4 MK I” / “S M”. The rear of the socket and bayonet catch display traces of OD Green paint. The bayonet shank is unfinished. It has no nicks and only a few specks of oxidation and small scratches consistent with scabbard use. The bayonet tip is unsharpened and the push-button catch operates smoothly-- I tested the bayonet for fit and had no problem fixing read more
