This is a World War I bayonet and scabbard for the enfield rifle referred to as the pattern 1907. The bayonet was made by the famous Wilkinson of sword making in December of 1918, 95 years ago. The bayonet is in excellent shape, blade appears to have been reconditioned by the Brits after the first war for storage for future use. Blade may have been sandblasted and re-blued and maybe factory re-sharpened as was the practice and then packed in cosmoline. This is normal for most of these blades that ended up being used again in WW II. There is what may be very minor pitting spots to the blade that looks more like spotting from cosmoline stains or uneven bluing. There is a small area of pitting near the blade spine. There are three nicks to the blade edge, not major but they are there, tried to catch them in pictures. Blade length is 16 3/4" overall 21 1/2" long. The paint on the hilt is mostly good and the wooden handles are in good shape. There are two chips to the obverse handle, one near the tang at the curve in the center of the handle and one where the handle meets the pommel in the corner by the mortise slot. The can be seen in the pictures. Usual stamped proof marks are present. Crossguard and pommel are painted black matching the scabbard and 95% is intact. Scabbard is in great condition, leather is very good with no splits, read more
