UP FOR AUCTION, WE OFFER THE FAILURE OF GEORGE III The Reform Bill 1784 A fine early vintage and genuine antique etching print or drawing, full original margins, copper plate etching pressed deeply into the thick paper stock that is laid paper. The mythical Phaeton [ representing either Hon. Fall, or George III ] , falls head downwards from his chariot in the clouds. He holds in his right hand a rolled document inscribed India Refo[rm] Bill'. The front of his chariot is visible (right); on the left are his steeds: a lion and a unicorn emerging from clouds; they are guided by a hand which projects from the upper margin of the design, holding ribbons attached to their mouths, which are the continuation of a scroll inscribed 'Dieu et mon droit' [ or, God and my Right ] . Behind the motto are the rays of the sun. Beneath the title is etched: "J S [Sayers] f. Plate y 3d' and Published as the Act directs by Thomas Cornell Bruton Street 6th January 1784" There are two interpretations of this famous print., one as stated by the British Museum above, and the other is that of King George III, failing in his attempt to put down the American rebellion.
