The Chindits were a long range jungle penetration group deployed by the British deep behind the Japanese lines in Burma. They were the largest special operations force of WW2. Led by the eccentric General Orde Wingate, they were supplied and given close air support by US Army Air Force Air Commando units. Chindits were one of the very few British units allowed to field modify their uniforms, allowing them to enhance their ability to fight in the jungle. This British WW2 Chindit P-40 Wool Battledress Vest Jacket is in very good condition, with only some scatterred mothing (pictured). It has had the sleeves removed, and the resulting edges hand stitched. It is is complete with the original broad arrow marked tag and is dated 1945. It is a rare size 16, for a man 6' to 6'2 and with a 40 chest; large by WW2 standards. We have shown a photo of a Chindit wearing a similar cut down vest.
