Up for auction is this unique bronze plaque - depicting an Eagle holding in his right talon an Olive branch, and in his left talon a bundle of arrows (symbolizing war & peace) . The eagle is shown facing the olive branch on its right side with a banner in its bill . T is a shield with 23 stars above vertical stripes. This shield is a container - for what? - perhaps to hold matches? We don't know and haven't seen anything else like it to compare it to. We bought it from an antique store about 15 years ago, other than that - we can't guess about the age. We initially listed this as brass but our research and the dark patina lead us to believe it is bronze? It measures approximately 5¼" wide x 7⅞" tall x 1⅜" deep. It weighs about 1¼ pounds - nice heft. It's certainly a neat piece in excellent condition - nice patina. This would make a great gift for a collector of such items.
