Bronze Greek Mythology ChrysomallosWinged Ram PlanterExcellent Condition âe" No Reserve! For your consideration is this awesome planter. I apologize for not knowing metals better but I believe this is bronze as opposed to brass. The winged ram is not solid but the whole piece still weighs a hefty 17 pounds. The patina is fantastic and the planter would be appropriate for both indoor and outdoor use. The piece is not quite symmetrical in places but that does not distract from the overall beauty and not very noticeable upon normal viewing. T are no dings, dents, scratches, etc. I wish I knew the history, origin and date of this piece to pass along; additionally t are no makers hallmarks on it. From Wikipedia:âeoeIn Greek mythology, the Golden Fleece (Greek: ΧÏÏ...ÏfÏOEμαλλον Î"ÎÏαÏ,) is that of the winged ram Chrysomallos (ΧÏÏ...ÏfÏOEμαλλοÏ,). It figures in the tale of Jason and his band of Argonauts, who set out on a quest for the Fleece in order to place Jason rightfully on the throne of Iolcus in Thessaly . The story is of great antiquity âe" it was current in the time of Homer (eighth century BC) âe" and consequently it survives in various forms, among which details vary. Thus, in later versions of the story the ram is said to have been the offspring of the sea god Poseidon and Themisto (less often, Nephele)
