This is a beautiful art deco br onze and ivory sculpture and is known as the most famous work of 1899 by the artist Louis Ernest Barrias ( French, 1841-1905 ), named ' 'Nature Revealing Herself to Science." The statue measures 24" tall, 9" wide, 5" deep and weighs just under 40 pounds. Louis-Ernest Barrias was born to a family of French artists in 1841. He later began his career as a painter and in 1865 he won the Prix de Rome which allowed him to study sculpture. The present sculpture is a rare bronze and ivory model known as his most famous sculpture of 1899: Barrias's "Nature Unveiling Herself Before Science." This sculpture has been edited in many sizes and compositions - bronze on bronze, bronze and ivory and bronze and marble with a multitude of poly-chrome variations. The Barrias bronze editions were cast by the Susse Freres foundry. I bought this bronze over 10 years ago and must part with her for economic reasons. She deserves a good home and will be a beautiful addition to any art collection. I believe this is a rare opportunity to acquire an exceptional art deco masterpiece for pennies on the dollar. Below, is a similar piece to the one I am selling. The obvious difference is that the woman is also cast in bronze with a different poly-chrome finish. Estimate $20,000 - $40,000
