2 7/8 x 1 1/2 inch match holder from Buffalo Brewing Company, Sacramento, California, with picture of the plant on the front and an advertisement for "Bohemian" Pale Export on the back. The cream-colored plastic wrapper is in perfect condition, and the item is undented, with freely working hinged lid. T are some slight rust spots. Buffalo Brewing was founded by Henry Grau in 1889. He had previously brewed in Buffalo, New York, and apparently liked the name. He built what was said to have been the largest brewery west of the Mississippi at that time. In 1897, it merged with Sacramento's City Brewery. At various times, Buffalo produced lager, bock, and ale. The company closed in 1942. In the 1950s, the classic brewery was demolished and is now the site of the Sacramento Bee newspaper.
