ORIGINAL BUILDERS'S PHOTO CARD FOR FERROCARRIL MEXICANO RAILWAY 0-4-4-4-0 ELECTRIC ENGINE #1001 - AMERICAN LOCOMOTIVE COMPANY, BUILDER'S ORDER #S-1409 (NOVEMBER, 1923) We have a number of these Builder's Photo Cards from American Locomotive Company. On each card is a black & white photo taken at the factory and on the back of each card is all the builder's detail for that particular ALCO order (see photos). The detail covers all the engine and tender specifications. We don't know when these cards were published, or how many were made. This particular card is for the Mexicano Railway 0-4-4-4-0 Electric Engine #1001 that was built under the Order #S-1409 in November, 1923. This engine was a joint venture between ALCO and General Electric. The Mexicano Railway (F.C.M.) purchased ten (#1000-1010) of these engines in 1923 to electrify the hauling of their passenger and freight trains over mountainous grades between Mexico City and the cities of Cordoba and Vera Cruz. These locomotives were used on grades up to 4.1% between Paso Del Macho and Boca Del Norte, a point just east of Esperanza. Two of these electrics were needed on the daily passenger trains. In 1928, two additional electrics were purchased, #1011-1012. These locomotives were still being used in 1960 when the the Mexicano was absorbed into the NdeM. We are offering a number read more
