ACCURATE MINIATURES - 1/48 Scale Built P-51A Mustang Auction item is a b uilt 1/48 scale Accurate Miniatures P-51A Mustang. The Airplane: The P-51A is the last of the Allison-engined Mustangs which has very different lines from that of the P-51B. Its service was limited mostly to the China-Burma-India theather of operation. This model was built to depict the aircraft flown by Capt. James J. England of the 311th Fighter Group, 10th Air Force stationed in Dinjan, India, around May 1944. Although England named this plane "Jackie" after his wife, the plane was originally named the "Star of Universal" in honor of the workers at Universal Engineering Co. of Frankensmith, MI, who raised the money to pay for it. The Model: Upper surfaces were air brushed dark olive drab and the lower surfaces neutral gray. The kit propeller blades are too, thick and were replaced with blades from spares in a Hasegawa P-51D kit. These are much more to scale. Blades are flat black w/ insignia yellow spinner and blade tips. Prop rotates freely and is removable. Canopy is not glued, and can be removed to view the interior. Cockpit is interior green and the pilot seat yellow chromate. Eduard seat belts and harnesses were added for realism. The kit instrument decal was used with Future floor wax as the glass cover.
