In chronological order: The Model 47 Type I, Model 59 Type I, Model 59 Type II/Early Model 74 Type III, and Model 74 Type III cover the bayonets; while the Model 47, Model 59/Model 74 Steel Type, and Model 59/Model 74 Plastic Type, describe the scabbards.BackgroundType III Bulgarian and Russian 6X5 bayonets feature a completely redesigned handle and blade. Development of the set was directly affected by reports from the field in Afghanistan. Consequently, the knife was created in a way that made it a more effective combat tool, while also serving as a functional bayonet.Although the military of Imperial Russia and the Soviets had always been enamored with the bayonet, design of the Type II all the way to the Type III were the first models substantiating the Soviet soldier's greater need for a general-purpose and combat knife rather than just a bayonet.DescriptionAs can be seen in the photos below, the bayonet in this set follows the standard Model 74 Type III style, or model 6X5, from Arsenal Bulgaria in Kazanlak, Bulgaria.
