Measurement : High:12.5" ; Bottom Diameter: 5.5" ; Top Diameter: 2.5" Burmese ancestors have used natural resins extracted from lacquer trees to produce lacquer products to serve everyday life for thousands of years. Lacquerware always have played an important role in Burmese culture and society. They were used for a wide range of purposes, ranging from traditional ceremonies [temples, weddings, at the King's court] to music and day to day life. Most Burmese lacquerware objects dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries can now be found in museums around the world. "Lacquer has many of the characteristics of modern plastic. It is light, waterproof, easily molded, and dries to a hard slate. It can be applied to virtually any surface. In finer wares it remains flexible, tolerates considerable use, and even withstands hot water. Odourless, mildew and decay resistant, lacquer resin stiffens, strengthens, and preserves the surface to which it is applied. It is decorative, inexpensive, hygenic, and can be painted, moulded, and carved. When polished it takes on a flawless sheen. In Burma its use is ubiquitous.
