This is a burr walnut veneered writing slope with brass stringing and edged with ebony. The interior is mahogany/mahogany veneer/rose-wood veneer. The pen tray is burr walnut veneered on mahogany, not original but a good match. It has and a working lock complete with key. Measures approximately 14" x 9 3/ 8" x 5 1 /2 " (360 x 245 x 145 mm) and weighs 3.1 Kg. There are various small dents, cracks et.c (please see pictures) but nothing out of the ordinary for its age. Inlayed to the lid and front are double lines of brass stringing and the name plate and escutcheon are also bordered with more stringing.All internal fittings are secure and complete. The lock is fully functional and has a key, but has lost one of its three hooks due to an attempted forced entry some time in its past, An imprint of a screw-driver can be seen on the edge of the writing flap. The writing surface has been replaced with near original match plain blue velvet together with tags at each end to allow the flaps to be lifted. The base has been recovered with a dark red felt, the original covering was partially missing. There has been some restoration to the slope to bring it up to this condition.
