Here is one of the most outstanding operatic recordings out there. It is an Edison 4-minute BA cylinder record #28133, Gilda's aria . Caro Nome from Verdi's Rigoletto, sung by soprano Selma Kurz with orchestra. The aria is one of the most difficult in all of opera. And Kurz sings great. She had it all, low notes, high notes, crescendo- decrescendo, trills, runs, the way singers used to sing. No one today can top this singing. I am having trouble parting with this one, but what the heck, let someone else enjoy it. Cylinder is in fine condition, no issues. Will pack well for safe shipping. The aria is one of the most difficult in all of opera.Here are two Busy Bee phonograph cylinder records, #212 Winona, a two-step orchestra one and #254 Pretty Peggy, song and dance. Both records have correctly numbered lids, and 212 has the original record slip. BOTH RECORDS ARE CRACKED ALL THE WAY DOWN THE SIDE, SO THEY ARE UNPLAYABLE AT THIS POINT. You could try your hand at repairing them, or send them to the Record Doctor, better known as Dr. K. If you want to go this route, ask me how to get in touch with him. The Busy Bee cylinders were made by the O'Neill-James Company out of Chicago. The cylinder were slightly larger in diameter than the standard Edison or Columbia ones. The reason for this was that the Busy Bee cylinder players had a larger diameter mandrel. This was a marketing ploy by the company- you had to buy their cylinders to play on their machines. The cylinder machines were only from 1904 to about 1910 when the company was sued for copyright infringements. The Busy Bee cylinders were susceptible to a pernicious mold which attacked the wax and ruined many of the cylinders. Winona has a few small spots of mold, nothing significant, but along the crack is a small divot which could be filled in. Pretty Peggy has a very faint wisp of mold, hardly noticeable. Boxes are nice, but the bottom to #212 has a piece out of it(see pic). These are getting hard to find in any condition. Good for display, even if you don't fix them.
